More Caps and Gowns: NE College Commencement Season Shifting to High Gear

 

Premier of Quebec Jean Charest will keynote Champlain College’s 133nd commencement on Saturday, May 7, at 10 a.m. in the college’s Memorial Auditorium. Former Vt. Gov. Jim Douglas will speak on behalf of  honorary degree recipients during the ceremony.

Author and sustainable agriculture activist Gary Paul Nabhan will deliver the commencement address at Maine’s Unity College on Saturday, May 7, at 1 p.m. in the gymnasium on the college campus.

Twitter co-founder Biz Stone will deliver the address at Babson College’s undergraduate commencement ceremony on Saturday, May 14, at 10 a.m. on the Babson campus.  He will join William Drayton, founder and CEO of Ashoka: Innovators for the Public, who will address audiences at both undergraduate and graduate commencement exercises.

Recently retired Chief Justice Margaret H. Marshall, the first woman to serve as chief justice of the Massachusetts Supreme Judicial Court, will address new undergraduates of Simmons College on Friday, May 20, at 10 a.m., at the Bank of America Pavilion. A 2 p.m. ceremony for master’s and doctoral degree students will feature Carol R. Johnson, superintendent of Boston Public Schools.

Honeywell Inc. chair and CEO David Cote will deliver the 2011 commencement speech at the University of New Hampshire on Saturday, May 21, at 10 a.m., on Memorial Field in Durham, N.H.

Sir Harold Evans, editor at large of the news and political commentary magazine, The Week and moderator of its panel discussions with world political and economic leaders, will address Cape Cod Community College’s commencement at the Cape Cod Melody Tent in Hyannis, Mass., on Thursday, May 26. He is the former editor of the Sunday Times and the Times of London. His son is a graduate of  CCCC’s vocational training skills program for students with significant learning difficulties, Project Forward.

Louis Gossett Jr., the internationally renowned actor and winner of an Emmy, an Oscar and a Golden Globe, will speak at Bunker Hill Community College’s 37th commencement exercises on Saturday, June 4, at the Charlestown campus.
