Neil deGrasse Tyson, Gabby Giffords, Senators King, Mitchell Among NE Commencement Speakers

Astrophysicist Neil deGrasse Tyson, director of the Hayden Planetarium in New York City, will keynote the undergraduate commencement of the University of Massachusetts Amherst on Friday, May 8 at 4:30 p.m. at McGuirk Alumni Stadium.

Public health advocate Karen A. Daley, who was president of the American Nurses Association, will address Rivier University’s commencement at the Tsongas Center in Lowell, Mass., on Saturday, May 9 at 10 a.m.

Boston Children’s Hospital CEO Sandra L. Fenwick will keynote the Regis College commencement on Saturday, May 9.

Recently retired Massachusetts Supreme Court Chief Justice Roderick L. Ireland will deliver the commencement address at the Roger Williams University School of Law on Friday, May 15 at 1 p.m. on the university’s main athletic field. National Book Award-winning author Nathaniel Philbrick will address the university’s general commencement on Saturday, May 16 at 10 a.m. in the same location.

U.S. Sen. Angus S. King Jr. (I-Maine) will keynote Kennebec Valley Community College’s commencement on May 16 at 10 a.m. at the Augusta Civic Center.

Anna Eleanor Roosevelt, president and CEO of Goodwill Industries of Northern New England, will address the University of New England’s 2015 commencement on May 16 at 10 a.m. at Portland’s Cross Insurance Arena (formerly the Cumberland County Civic Center).

Former U.S. Army staff sergeant Ryan Pitts, who won a Medal of Honor for his combat actions in Afghanistan, will deliver the University of New Hampshire commencement address on Saturday, May 16 at 10 a.m. on Memorial Field.

Father John F. Madden, pastor of St. John Parish in Worcester, Mass., will address Anna Maria College’s commencement on Saturday, May 16 at 10 a.m. at the Hanover Theatre in Worcester.

Kevin Colleran, an early executive at Facebook and Babson alumnus, will address Babson College’s undergraduate ceremony on Saturday, May 16 at 10 a.m. Richard Saul Wurman, an author who cofounded the TED (Technology, Entertainment and Design) conference, will address the F.W. Olin Graduate School of Business Ceremony at 3 p.m.

New York Times Co. President and CEO Mark Thompson will address Sacred Heart University’s graduate commencement on Saturday, May 16 at 1 p.m., at the Webster Bank Arena in Bridgeport. Former U.S. Sen. George Mitchell of Maine will keynote Sacred Heart’s undergraduate commencement on Sunday, May 17, at 10:30 a.m., also at the Webster Bank Arena in Bridgeport.

Association of American Colleges and Universities President Carol Geary Schneider will keynote Mount Holyoke College’s 178th commencement on Sunday, May 17 at 10:30 a.m. in the Gettell Amphitheater

Former U.S. Rep. Gabrielle Giffords (D-Ariz.) and her husband NASA astronaut Mark Kelly will address Class Day ceremonies at Harvard Law School on Wednesday, May 27. (Former Massachusetts Gov. Deval Patrick will keynote Harvard’s 364th commencement on May 28.)

Princeton University math professor Manjul Bhargava will keynote the commencement at Bates College on Sunday, May 31 at 10 a.m. on the Historic Quad,
