Poet Laureate to be Interim Prez at MECA; Changing Watch at Naval War College

Maine’s poet laureate Stuart Kestenbaum, the former director of the Haystack Mountain School of Crafts, was named interim president of the Maine College of Art, succeeding Don Tuski, who left the Portland, Maine college after six years in July to become president at Pacific Northwest College of Art in Portland, Oregon.

Rear Adm. Jeffrey A. Harley became the 56th president of the U.S. Naval War College in Newport, R.I., succeeding Rear Adm. P. Gardner Howe III, who became associate director for military affairs at the Central Intelligence Agency in McLean, Va.

Heather Quire, who has held student affairs posts at Mansfield University of Pennsylvania, Massachusetts College of Liberal Arts and Hartwick College in New York, became Southern Vermont College’s new associate provost for student affairs & dean of students.

Marta T. Rosa announced she would resign as Wheelock College’s chief diversity officer and senior executive director for government & external affairs and strategic partnerships and focus on her own management consulting firm.

The National Association of Elementary School Principals (NAESP) announced the search for a new executive director to succeed Gail Connelly, who will retire from the post she has held since 2007 and continue to serve as executive director emeritus.

Myra Jones-Taylor announced she will step down as commissioner of Connecticut Office of Early Childhood, effective Sept. 1.
