Schott to Leave UMPI; Vt Smiths Change Roles

Comings and Goings …

University of Maine at Presque Isle President Linda Schott accepted an offer to serve as president of Southern Oregon University. Schott began her service in UMPI in 2012. NEBHE recognized UMPI’s achievements in personalized education with its 2016 Maine State Merit Award.

Vermont Technical College President Dan Smith accepted the job of president and CEO of the Vermont Community Foundation, effective in August. Meanwhile, his father, Peter Smith, founding president of both California State University Monterey Bay and the Community College of Vermont, was appointed Orkand Endowed Chair and Professor of Innovative Practices in Higher Education at University of Maryland University College. Peter Smith wrote for NEJHE in 2015 about “Living with Abundant Information: What’s a College to Do?” and for NEJHEs predecessor Connection in 1990, while a member of Congress from Vermont.

Clark University appointed Frances “Francy” M. Magee, most recently dean for campus life at the New York Institute of Technology, to be the Worcester university’s assistant provost and dean of students.
