Studley Joins Accreditor; Brown’s Simmons Lands in Texas

Comings and Goings …

Former U.S. Department of Education official and Skidmore College President Jamienne S. Studley was named president of the Western Association of Schools and Colleges’ Senior College and University Commission, one of the seven U.S. regional accreditors. Studley has been featured several times in NEJHE, speaking about college rating systems and other initiatives to promote access, affordability and attainment.

Ruth J. Simmons, who became the first African-American to lead an Ivy League institution at Brown University president from July 2001 to June 2012, was named permanent president at Prairie View A&M University, a historically black university in Texas, where she has been interim president since July.

Management consultant Eric Turner, a former executive with State Street Corp. and the Commonwealth of Massachusetts, was named vice president of the Graduate and Professional Studies division at Lasell College.

James R. Whitley, assistant dean/campus director of the Boston campus of Springfield College’s School of Professional and Continuing Studies, was named dean of Post University’s John P. Burke School of Public Service and Education.
