Act No. 38 (H.405)
AN ACT RELATING TO K-12 AND HIGHER EDUCATION PARTNERSHIPS
This act requires the Vermont State Colleges, the University of Vermont, the Association of Independent Colleges, the Vermont Student Assistance Corporation, Inc., and the department of education to work together to develop strategies and partnerships to expand opportunities for Vermont students to succeed in elementary and secondary school and be well prepared for postsecondary education. The act also requires the commissioner of education to examine and evaluate existing longitudinal student data systems, to apply for federal stimulus monies, and to begin implementation of a statewide system to the extent funds are available.

H. 709 (ACT 0133)
AN ACT RELATING TO CREATING A PREKINDERGARTEN–16 COUNCIL
This bill creates a new council to integrate the educational programs and policies of Vermont’s public schools and postsecondary institutions. It would also eliminate the commission on higher education funding and require the University of Vermont, the Vermont State Colleges, and the Vermont Student Assistance Corporation, Inc. jointly to assume the commission’s responsibilities.

AN ACT RELATING TO HARASSMENT AND HAZING POLICIES AT INDEPENDENT COLLEGES
This bill requires independent colleges in the state to adopt and ensure enforcement of harassment and hazing policies, as the Vermont state colleges and the University of Vermont are required to do, rather than be governed by the procedural requirements that apply to elementary and secondary schools.

Act No. 43 (H.445)
Capital appropriations; bonding; school construction funding
This bill makes appropriations for capital projects, bonding, school construction funding in the amount of$109,335,821.Of that amount, the University of Vermont and the Vermont State Colleges will each receive $2 million and $10.3 million will go to K-12 and technical center school construction projects.
