
About the Excellence Awards
NEBHE launched the New England Higher Education Excellence Awards in 2003 to recognize individuals and institutions that have made substantive contributions to improving higher education opportunities for New England students.
Regional Awards
Four regional awards are presented to individuals and organizations from higher education, government and business sectors that exemplify excellence in higher education in one or more of the following areas: leadership, innovation, diversity, partnerships/collaborations or educational opportunity.
- The Governor Walter R. Peterson Award for Leadership
- The Eleanor M. McMahon Award for Lifetime Achievement
- The Robert J. McKenna for Program Achievement
- The David C. Knapp Award for Trusteeship
State Merit Awards
Six state merit awards are presented to individuals, programs, organizations, institutions or businesses in each of the six New England states—Connecticut, Maine, Massachusetts, New Hampshire, Rhode Island and Vermont—for exemplifying, through their work, excellence in promoting college readiness and success for the students of New England.
