2011 Issue-Oriented Conferences

New England Higher Education Leadership Summit
October 24, 2011
Federal Reserve Bank of Boston

NEBHE is known across New England for its ability to convene the region’s most senior decision and policy makers.  Governors, education advisors, state legislators, college and university presidents, deans, provosts, faculty and business leaders are among those individuals who participate and who look to NEBHE to inform and engage them on key issues affecting the region.  These events also offer valuable opportunities for you to connect with influential decision and policy makers and to contribute to these vital discussions.
NEBHE conferences typically attract approximately 400 participants and have addressed timely issues in an engaging and innovative manner, with fresh perspectives from national, state and regional experts.  Past issues and topics have included: strategic management responses to the economic recession; environmental sustainability; cost, productivity and reinvention of the university; higher education’s role in local and regional economic development; college readiness and completion; the Common Core Standards for college and career readiness; and effective strategies for K-16 alignment.

NEBHE Programs

College Ready New England (CRNE) unites leaders of education, business and government from all six New England states to develop and implement strategies to increase economic competitiveness and the well being of the region and its residents through expanded college readiness, participation and success.

Regional Student Program (RSP) Tuition Break, NEBHE’s cornerstone program, saves New England students and families millions of dollars on their out-of-state public college tuition bills each year, when they pursue specialized degree programs not offered by their home-state public colleges. Through Tuition Break, students can enroll in hundreds of discounted degree programs. Thousands of students and families, guidance counselors and school officials access Tuition Break information online at www.nebhe.org/tuitionbreak, as well as from their local high schools and public libraries

After more than 25 years of experience as an authority on trends and analysis in higher education for thought leaders in New England and beyond, NEBHE published the final print edition of its respected New England Journal of Higher Education in February and moved fully online in June as part of a robust NEBHE "content hub" at www.nebhe.org. The new digital Journal includes the provocative perspectives and thoughtful analysis of key issues that characterized the print journal, but now with the added frequency and interactivity made possible by web technologies. As the platform for the digital Journal, NEBHE's new content hub serves as a portal for all things related to New England higher education and its vital role in powering the region’s human capital and innovative economy.

This content hub is anchored by:

  • long- and short-form commentary and analysis (as previously featured in print quarterly issues of NEJHE)
  • links to critical higher education-oriented data (as previously featured in NEJHE’s Trends & Indicators)
  • campus news and events (as previously featured in the biweekly NEJHE’s Newslink)
  • current and past NEJHE articles; reader comments and dialogue
  • roundtable discussions and video of the proceedings of NEBHE conferences
  • links to NEBHE programs and partners
  • an interactive social networking capacity.

STEM Problem Based Learning (PBL) develops curriculum and teaches teachers about emerging technology fields with support from the Advanced Technological Education program of the National Science Foundation and industry associations.  This program prepares high school and college STEM instructors to introduce students to problem-based learning, a strategy that enhances content retention, critical thinking and teamwork skills.

The NEBHE Master Property Program (MPP) is a comprehensive "all risk" property insurance program with coverage and services tailored specifically to meet the needs of higher education, at costs that have consistently been below industry trends.  MPP is a regional collaborative venture that reduces insurance costs and improves asset protection. It has generated more than $49.6 million in savings for its participating institutions since its inception in 1994.
