				<content:encoded><![CDATA[<p>Longtime University of Maine at Farmington President <strong>Theo Kalikow</strong> will succeed <strong>Selma Botman</strong> as president of the University of Southern Maine, effective July 10, the system office announced. Botman will stay in the system, leading efforts to expand its international  programs.</p>
<p><strong>Christine  Plunkett</strong>, Burlington College's vice president of administration and finance, was <a href="https://www.burlington.edu/content/burlington-college-announces-new-president-and-dean" target="_blank">named</a> president of the college, succeeding Jane Sanders.</p>
<p>Rhode Island School of Design <a href="http://www.risd.edu/templates/content.aspx?id=4294979183" target="_blank">named</a> furniture designer/maker and interim provost <strong>Rosanne Somerson</strong> to be its provost, effective July 1.</p>
<p>The University  of New England <a href="http://www.une.edu/news/2012/costapierce.cfm" target="_blank">appointed</a> former Rhode Island Sea Grant College Program director <strong>Barry A. Costa-Pierce </strong>to be the Biddeford, Maine, university's new  Henry L. &amp; Grace Doherty Endowed Chair of Marine Sciences and director  of its Marine Science Education and Research Center and  Center for Land-Sea Interactions.</p>
<p><strong>Jimmy Jung</strong> was <a href="http://umaine.edu/news/blog/2012/04/23/jung-named-umaines-new-vice-president-for-enrollment-management/" target="_blank">named</a> vice president for enrollment management at the University of Maine, effective July 1. Currently,  Jung is assistant vice president for enrollment management at the State  University of New York The College at Brockport and former  executive director for strategic enrollment management at City  University of New York Baruch College.</p>
<p>National Student Clearinghouse Research Center founding director <strong>Don Hossler</strong> <a href="http://www.studentclearinghouse.org/about/media_center/" target="_blank">stepped down</a> as executive director on July 1 to concentrate full time on his teaching obligations at  Indiana University. Doug Shapiro, currently senior director of research for the center, will be promoted to executive research director.</p>

<p>In mid-September, <strong>Ruth J. Simmons </strong>announced she <a href="http://www.golocalprov.com/news/breaking-simmons-to-leave-brown/" target="_blank">will step down</a> as president of Brown University at the end of this academic year. She became the first black president of an Ivy League institution when Brown appointed her in 2001, after serving as president of Smith College since 1995.</p>
