Meotti</strong>, a NEBHE delegate, was <a href="http://www.courant.com/news/education/hc-meotti-appointed-0702-20110701,0,267836.story" target="_blank">named</a> interim president of the the state's new Board of Regents of  Higher Education. Under the state's recent education reorganization, the Regents will serve as the board for the community colleges, state universities and Charter Oak State College, as of Jan. 1. 2012.</span></p>

<p><span style="font-size: small;">Vermont State Colleges Chancellor Tim Donovan announced that <strong>Steve Gold</strong> of Montpelier was <a href="http://www.lyndonstate.edu/news-and-announcements/support-our-troops-in-afghanistan/" target="_blank">appointed</a> interim president of Lyndon State College, succeeding Carol A. Moore who retired after 13 years of service at Lyndon. Gold has served at commissioner and deputy secretary levels in both the Dean and Douglas administrations. Moore, a NEBHE delegate since 2002, <a href="../wp-content/uploads/2009-Spring_MooreEtal.pdf">wrote</a> recently for <em>NEJHE</em> about college retention.</span></p>

<p><span style="font-size: small;"><strong>Harris N. Miller </strong><a href="http://chronicle.com/article/Harris-Miller-Resigns-as/127950/" target="_blank">resigned</a> after four years as president of the Association of Private  Sector  Colleges and Universities, whose nearly 2,000 member  institutions  enroll 1.5 million students. Over the past year, the sector has faced  increased scrutiny from Congress and the  Education Department and  stepped-up criticism from advocacy groups.</span></p>

				<content:encoded><![CDATA[<p>University of Maine System Chancellor<strong> <a href="http://www.maine.edu/chancellor/index.php" target="_blank">Richard L. Pattenaude</a></strong> planned to tell system trustees that he will not seek an extension of his current contract, which expires next year at the end of June. Pattenaude has served as chancellor since 2007 and, before that, was president of the University of Southern Maine for 16 years. In May, he shared <a href="http://www.nebhe.org/thejournal/lessons-from-restructuring-the-university-of-maine-system-2/" target="_blank">views</a> on the challenges of restructuring the UMaine System with <em>NEJHE</em>.</p>

<p><a href="http://www.carseyinstitute.unh.edu/staff-fellows/duncan-mil" target="_blank"><strong>Mil Duncan</strong></a> announced that she is stepping down as director of the <a href="http://www.carseyinstitute.unh.edu/" target="_blank">Carsey Institute</a> to work with a new national initiative on food and agriculture policy transformation called <a href="http://www.foodandagpolicy.org" target="_blank">AGree</a>. Since opening at the University of New Hampshire in 2004, the Carsey Institute has developed pursued research on vulnerable children and families and challenges and opportunities for sustainable development that benefits communities. In 1999, Duncan wrote an <a href="http://www.nebhe.org/thejournal/connection-explores-regions-economy-community-demography/" target="_blank">article</a> for <em>NEJHE</em> (then called <em>Connection</em>) comparing poverty in New England to other regions.</p>

<p><a href="http://www.massbay.edu/" target="_blank">MassBay Community College</a> trustees reached agreement with <a href="http://www.thesuburbanite.com/communities/jackson/x941159651/Stark-State-College-President-John-ODonnell-leaving" target="_blank"><strong>John O’Donnell</strong></a>, president of Stark State College in Ohio since 2004, to become the fifth president of the Wellesley, Mass.-based college, succeeding Carole Berotte Joseph.</p>

He will succeed Jacob Ludes III, who is retiring after more than 12 years in charge of the the Bedford, Mass.-based accrediting agency for more than 2,000 New England  public and private  institutions from pre-kindergarten through college.</p>

<p>Maine Center for Economic Policy  Executive Director and Founder <strong>Christopher “Kit” St. John</strong> <a href="http://www.mecep.org/news_detail.asp?news=1640" target="_blank">will leave</a> his position at the end of 2011. St. John was in a group of  advocates who founded the organization in 1994 to ensure that the  interests of low- and moderate-income families would be represented in  budget debates.</p>

A native of Worcester, Mass., he is the author of three novels and was director of public affairs at Norwich University. VCFA is the only U.S. graduate school devoted exclusively to fine arts  education.</p>
