There's many, many examples of top business people and entrepreneurs that never managed to obtain a college degree. Richard Branson and Bill Gates spring to mind immediately but there are a lot more too. As somebody that has been on both sides of the employer and employee situation I know for a fact that one's formal education has very little bearing on one's ability to do a good job. During my time as an employer I hardly ever looked at a persons academic record but always moved directly to their achievements and goals. Give me a person with a proven ability to think on their feet, make things happen and a clear sense of where they are heading in life over some supposedly 'smart' college graduate.

I feel like most of these questions would not be being asked right now if it weren't for the economy. If unemployment were lower, gas prices lower, and wages were where they were 20 years ago(adjusted for inflation), there wouldn't be any self analysis.

I see employers hiring for experience more than for degrees held. I would hire a high school dropout before a person with a masters degree if he/she could do the job. There are more of them and they cost less. Just my personal thoughts though.
