2011 Tuition & Fees Report

NEBHE's 2011 Tuition and Fee Report covers tuition and fee rates at New England's public colleges and universities from the academic year 2006-07 through 2011-12. By examining trends in published tuition and fee rates, this report seeks to shed light on the price and affordability of postsecondary education in the region.

Key Findings

• Between the 2006-07 and 2012-12 academic years, in-state tuition and fees at New England public, four year institutions increased by an average of 38%. Tuition and fees for out-of-state students increased an average of 30%.
• During this same time period, tuition and fees at New England public, two-year institutions increased by 31% for in-state students and 21% for out-of-state students.
• Based on national data from the College Board and the American Community Survey, the share of family income required for one year of public tuition and fees increased more in many of the New England states than the rest of the country for both two-year and four-year institutions.
